About me
Who is Vanessa? the woman behind HerTonic
I’m a Haitian-American woman who wants to help other women be the best version of themselves. I do so by, creating healthy, safe and supportive environment where women can come together regardless of where they are in their journey. I am a mother, a wife, and a licensed associate counselor in NJ. I gave birth to my first child in 2022 and my experience was traumatic. Not only was my pregnancy difficulty, but my birthing experience was pre-term and full of surprises. During my pregnancy, I attended a prenatal yoga class and I was the only Black woman. I was seeking community and I still felt alone. My intention with HerTonic is to create a culturally specific space for Black women during pregnancy and beyond. We always hear that “it takes a village to raise a child”, but these days there is no village. We lack support from family and friends, and traditional mental health services can be expense and inaccessible. I created HerTonic to give Black women a space to be human, to be vulnerable. Most importantly, a space where they come first. Their healing comes first, above all. A space free of judgment, but fill with accountability, genuine support, love, empathy, and vulnerability.
